THANKS TO BARBARA MARTIN

November's demo was by Barbara Martin - Scratchboard & assemblage artist. Barbara's scratchboard bird ‘portraits’ started with a collection of cherished, vintage picture frames she acquired  by searching through flea markets, garage sales, and dumps.

Based on the size and shape of the vintage frames Barbara presumed the they had held portraits, perhaps of loved ones or well-respected ancestors.  She replaced the images with impressive artwork of scratchboard birds. Visit her art at martinartwork.com.

Featured Artist: Bonnie

Escaping the chaotic household of 7 children, I got lost in the beauty of the natural world.  Exploring my roots, I discovered my grandfather was a self-taught artist.  Now I own his original pastel seascapes – a reminder to continue honing my own skills.   I have explored a variety of mediums: clay, charcoal, pencil, acrylics, oil pastels.  In college I earned an art minor, oil being my primary medium; I entered juried shows in my PA home town and at Thiel College featuring local talent.  After 42 years teaching English, I now attend workshops and private instruction in watercolor techniques from local Ohio artists.  I hope you too can escape the sometimes chaotic day-to-day routines through my watercolor snapshots of cherished moments in time. As a longtime resident in Rochester, I spent vacations in upper NY State canoeing, camping, swimming, and hiking. I attended the Lake Placid 1980 Olympics, skiing the biathlon trails and bobsled runs used for competition.  Other travels to Europe, the Pacific coast and the South West in the US have also provided inspiration.
